RCCG Defends Adeboye’s Neutrality, Says He Never Campaigned for Any Government

The Redeemed Christian Church of God, RCCG, has reaffirmed Adeboye’s neutrality in political matters, stating that its General Overseer, Pastor Enoch Adejare Adeboye, has never campaigned for any government in power. The church made the clarification following public reactions to recent comments attributed to the cleric regarding the administration of President Bola Tinubu. RCCG officials stressed that Adeboye’s neutrality has remained a consistent principle throughout his ministry and public engagements.

The clarification followed public debate over remarks made by Pastor Adeboye during the June edition of the Holy Ghost Service at the Redemption City, Ogun State. During the service, the cleric spoke about developments in Nigeria’s economic and security landscape and urged citizens to continue praying for the nation and its leaders.

The comments generated varying interpretations on social media, with some suggesting that the RCCG leader was expressing support for the current administration. In response, church officials moved to clarify the position of the General Overseer and the denomination. RCCG noted that Pastor Adeboye has, over several decades, maintained a non-partisan stance while offering prayers for governments irrespective of political affiliation or party control.

Speaking on behalf of the church, the Assistant General Overseer, Administration and Personnel, Johnson Odesola, said Pastor Adeboye had never endorsed or campaigned for any government.

Odesola stated that the cleric’s comments should not be interpreted as political support but as observations made in the context of national development and spiritual leadership. According to him, “Daddy Adeboye has never campaigned for any government in power. He has never done that and he will never do that.”

He further explained that Pastor Adeboye routinely prays for leaders at all levels of government because the Bible instructs Christians to pray for those in authority. The church maintained that offering prayers for elected officials should not be mistaken for political endorsement.

Odesola emphasized that Adeboye’s neutrality has remained evident throughout different administrations in Nigeria. He noted that successive presidents, governors, and public office holders have received prayers from the cleric regardless of political party affiliation.

The RCCG official also stressed that the church remains focused on its spiritual mission and does not engage in partisan political activities. He said Pastor Adeboye’s public interventions are generally aimed at encouraging peace, national unity, and social stability.

The clarification comes amid increasing public scrutiny of comments made by influential religious leaders on national issues. Religious organisations remain important stakeholders in public discourse, and statements by prominent clerics often attract significant public attention.

By reiterating Adeboye’s neutrality, RCCG seeks to distinguish between spiritual guidance and political endorsement. The church’s position also highlights ongoing discussions about the role of faith leaders in governance-related conversations and national development.
