The African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Kebbi State has accused the Federal Government of using judicial processes to intimidate opposition figures, alleging that former Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami, is being deliberately targeted over his reported governorship ambition ahead of the 2027 elections.
The allegations were contained in a statement jointly signed by the Kebbi State Chairman of the party, Sufiyanu Bala, and Alhaji Shehu Aliyu Sambawa. According to the party, the alleged actions form part of a broader strategy aimed at weakening opposition parties by discouraging influential political figures from contesting future elections at both the federal and state levels.
The ADC claimed that Malami persecution claims stem from what it described as ongoing judicial actions intended to pressure the former minister into abandoning his reported ambition to contest the Kebbi State governorship election in 2027. The party further alleged that recent legal actions involving the seizure of assets linked to Malami were politically motivated and designed to intimidate him rather than serve the interests of justice.
It also accused the Kebbi State Government of attempting to frustrate the former minister’s political aspirations through what it described as sustained acts of intimidation. Despite the alleged pressure, the ADC maintained that Malami remains committed to pursuing his governorship ambition and insisted that no level of political or judicial intimidation would force him to withdraw from the race.
The party said it would continue to stand by its members, expressing confidence that the judiciary would ultimately deliver justice in cases involving the opposition. According to the statement, the ADC remains undeterred by what it described as judicial and political persecution and believes due process will prevail.
As of the time of filing this report, neither the Federal Government nor the Kebbi State Government had responded to the allegations. There was also no immediate official reaction from the relevant authorities regarding the Malami persecution claims raised by the opposition party.
