UK Announces Airspace, Road Restrictions for Tinubu State Visit

Authorities in the United Kingdom have announced temporary airspace and road restrictions in Windsor ahead of the state visit of Nigerian President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, scheduled for March 18 to 19.

President Tinubu is expected to undertake a state visit to the United Kingdom at the invitation of King Charles III. The visit will take place at Windsor Castle and will include official engagements hosted by the British monarch.

Security planning for the visit is being coordinated by the Thames Valley Police in collaboration with the Royal Borough of Windsor and Maidenhead, the Royal Household, and other partner agencies.

Authorities stated that the measures are part of preparations typically implemented during major royal or diplomatic events in Windsor.

Officials noted that Windsor regularly hosts high-profile state ceremonies and that extensive planning is conducted in advance to manage security and public safety during such occasions.

According to Thames Valley Police, airspace restrictions will be enforced over Windsor on March 18, the main day of the state visit.

The temporary restriction will be in place from 7:00 a.m. until 11:59 p.m. in coordination with the Civil Aviation Authority.

Chief Superintendent Adrian Hall of the Thames Valley Police Joint Operations Unit said the restrictions form part of a wider security plan for the visit.

He stated that the police force has extensive experience managing security for royal events in Windsor.

Hall said authorities will enforce the restrictions strictly and warned that any breach of the airspace limitation would be treated as a criminal offence under the Air Navigation Order.

Police also announced that additional security deployments will be in place during the visit. These include search teams, mounted police units, roads policing officers, and armed response units.

Authorities added that surveillance systems, including Windsor’s CCTV network and vehicle barrier systems, will be used as part of the security arrangements.

In addition to airspace measures, several road closures and parking restrictions will take effect from March 17 in and around Windsor. Officials indicated that temporary disruption may occur on roads during the visit.

UK authorities stated that the restrictions are intended to support security operations and ensure the safety of dignitaries, residents, and members of the public during the state visit.

Police also encouraged the public to report any suspicious activity through established emergency and non-emergency communication channels.
