Makinde Affirms Oyo PDP November Convention Will Proceed Amid Party Dispute

Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde has stated that the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) national convention scheduled for November 15 and 16 in Ibadan, Oyo State, will proceed as planned, and reaffirmed the party’s intention to be present on the electoral ballot ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The PDP has been experiencing internal disputes involving rival factions ahead of the 2027 general elections.

A Federal High Court in Ibadan nullified the results of the party’s November 15 and 16, 2025 convention, which had elected a National Working Committee, including chairman Kabiru Turaki, due to legal challenges.

The court ruling left the PDP without a recognised national leadership structure and intensified internal negotiations about party organisation.

Governor Makinde, speaking on developments within the PDP, affirmed that the scheduled November convention in Ibadan remains intact and that the party “stands” to participate in elections scheduled for 2027.

He also said the party intends to maintain its presence on ballots for forthcoming elections.

According to a listing of current PDP state party structures, the Oyo State chapter remains under Makinde’s faction of the party, indicating ongoing organisational efforts at the state level.

Makinde’s statements indicate an official position by a senior PDP leader that the party’s internal electoral process, including the planned national convention, remains scheduled, despite earlier legal setbacks.

The convention’s occurrence is a procedural step required for the PDP to organise its leadership and prepare structures ahead of the 2027 general elections.
