Akwa Ibom Governor Submits APC Nomination Form, Seeks Party Support Ahead of 2027 Polls

Akwa Ibom State Governor has formally submitted his APC nomination form as part of preparations for the 2027 general elections, seeking support from party stakeholders for his re-election ambition under the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Political activities ahead of the 2027 general elections have intensified across Nigeria, with aspirants at various levels of government securing nomination forms and engaging party structures.

The All Progressives Congress, as the ruling party, has witnessed significant participation from incumbents and new entrants seeking tickets for executive and legislative positions. This aligns with the Independent National Electoral Commission’s timetable for party primaries scheduled between April and May 2026.

Akwa Ibom State has remained a key political battleground in the South-South region, with shifting alliances and growing competition among major political actors.

The governor’s submission of the APC nomination form signals his intention to seek a second term under the party platform, following his alignment with the APC ahead of the electoral cycle. Party sources confirmed that the nomination form submission was part of the APC’s ongoing sale and collection process for governorship aspirants nationwide.

According to the party’s schedule, governorship aspirants are expected to undergo screening, appeals, and primaries before the final emergence of candidates for the 2027 elections. The governor also used the opportunity to seek stronger backing from party leadership and stakeholders, emphasizing unity within the state chapter of the APC ahead of the primaries.

The submission of the APC nomination form comes amid broader political movements across the country, where governors, senators, and federal lawmakers are also purchasing nomination forms for various offices. Reports indicate that similar activities are taking place in states such as Ogun, Nasarawa, Bauchi, and Borno, where aspirants have also joined the race under the APC platform.

It also reflects the increasing importance of internal party structures in determining electoral outcomes, particularly in states with strong party rivalry. In Akwa Ibom, the development may further intensify political negotiations, alignments, and stakeholder consultations ahead of the primaries.
