Tinubu link claims spark fresh Kano political war as Kwankwaso camp fires back

The political camp loyal to former Kano State Governor Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso has rejected recent Tinubu link claims allegedly made by officials of the Kano State Government, describing the assertions as misleading and politically motivated. The disagreement adds to ongoing tensions within Kano’s political landscape ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The controversy emerged after comments reportedly suggesting that Kwankwaso was maintaining political ties or strategic alignments with President Bola Tinubu and the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC). The remarks generated reactions within the Kwankwasiyya movement, which denied any hidden alliance or political arrangement involving the former governor.

Responding to the allegations, representatives of the Kwankwaso camp said the Tinubu link claims were attempts to create confusion among supporters and distort ongoing political engagements involving opposition figures. The group maintained that Kwankwaso’s political decisions and consultations remain independent and consistent with his publicly stated positions.

The dispute reflects broader political rivalries within Kano State, where competing factions linked to the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), the APC and state government structures continue to position themselves ahead of future elections. Political alignments in the state have attracted national attention because of Kano’s electoral significance and large voting population.

According to Vanguard, members of the Kwankwasiyya movement accused unnamed political actors of deliberately spreading the Tinubu link claims to weaken public confidence in the movement’s political direction. They argued that ongoing consultations involving opposition politicians should not be interpreted as evidence of alliance with the ruling party.

The Kano State Government has, however, continued to defend its political positions amid increasing exchanges between rival camps. The development comes at a time when political actors across parties are engaging in consultations, coalition discussions and strategic repositioning ahead of the next election cycle.

Observers note that the repeated emergence of Tinubu link claims highlights the fluid nature of political negotiations currently taking place across several opposition parties. Discussions around coalition-building, party defections and strategic alliances have intensified in recent months as political figures seek to strengthen influence ahead of 2027.

Kwankwaso remains one of the prominent opposition political figures in northern Nigeria following his performance in the 2023 presidential election under the NNPP platform. His political movement continues to maintain significant grassroots structures in Kano and parts of the North-West region.

Analysts say the latest exchange between the Kwankwaso camp and Kano government officials reflects deeper internal tensions and competition for political control within the state. The situation also underscores how political narratives and alliance speculation are increasingly shaping public discourse ahead of the next electoral cycle.
