Kwara APC campaigns against violence as 2027 election preparations begin

Political stakeholders within the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Kwara State have intensified calls for peaceful engagement as preparations begin ahead of the 2027 general elections, in what is being described as an APC campaigns against violence effort aimed at reducing electoral tension and rancour.

The appeal was made during a stakeholders’ meeting in Asa Local Government Area, where party members urged unity and issue-based political participation.

The APC campaigns against violence initiative reflects early political mobilisation activities across Nigeria as parties begin informal positioning ahead of the 2027 elections. Such engagements are typically used to strengthen internal structures, promote cohesion, and discourage conduct that could trigger electoral unrest.

In Kwara State, the APC has maintained a strong political presence in recent election cycles, and internal stakeholders continue to engage in consultations to consolidate support and align party activities ahead of future contests. Political meetings at this stage often focus on strategy, unity, and mobilisation at grassroots levels.

The call for peace was made by members of the Asa Progressive Movement during a gathering held in Afon, the headquarters of Asa Local Government Area. The meeting formed part of ongoing consultations ahead of the 2027 general elections and served as a platform for reinforcing internal party cohesion.

As part of the APC campaigns against violence, participants urged political actors within and outside the party to avoid hate speech, physical confrontation, and divisive rhetoric during political engagements. The group emphasised that elections should be centred on ideas, governance priorities, and development outcomes rather than conflict.

A communiqué issued at the end of the meeting stressed the importance of unity and peaceful coexistence among party members and supporters. It further called on stakeholders to prioritise political stability and ensure that campaign activities remain orderly across all levels of engagement.

The group also passed a vote of confidence in party figures, including Bashir Omolaja Bolarinwa, noting his role within the political structure of the state. Additionally, members were directed to intensify mobilisation efforts in preparation for the election cycle, with emphasis on grassroots coordination.

The APC campaigns against violence message underscores growing awareness among political actors about the importance of peaceful elections in Nigeria’s democratic process. Early advocacy for non-violence may help reduce tensions as political activities increase in the lead-up to 2027.

It also reflects a broader trend where political parties are incorporating peace messaging into their early campaign structures, particularly at state and local government levels where electoral tensions are often more pronounced.

Such initiatives may contribute to improved political engagement and reduced risks of conflict during campaign periods if sustained and implemented effectively.
