Sokoto PDP factions disagree over Abuja convention attendance dispute

Sokoto PDP factions disagree over Abuja convention attendance claims following conflicting statements from rival groups. The disagreement emerged after reports that the state chapter boycotted the party’s national convention.

A counter-claim later surfaced insisting Sokoto delegates attended proceedings. The dispute created competing narratives over representation at the Abuja gathering.

A party chieftain, Barrister Hassan Isma’ila, said stakeholders from the state participated fully. He dismissed claims that Sokoto members stayed away from the convention.

He described the reports as inaccurate and misleading. He maintained that genuine party members attended activities in Abuja.

“Bonafide PDP members and loyalists from Sokoto State are here on ground. We are fully participating in all activities and procedures of the national convention,” he said.

The statement directly countered earlier claims of non-attendance. Those claims had circulated within the state chapter. The disagreement deepened divisions among party stakeholders.

Isma’ila also challenged the authority of those announcing a boycott. He alleged that several executives had shifted allegiance elsewhere.

He claimed some were aligned with the African Democratic Congress. He argued such individuals lacked legitimacy to speak for the party.

“Most of the present executives have diluted into the fold of the ADC. Some are only in PDP as shadows, while their real political roots lie elsewhere,” he said. He added that the debate over delegates misrepresented legal provisions.

He referenced the amended Electoral Act while addressing the issue. He insisted membership determined legitimacy, not delegate status.

“The new Electoral Act has nothing to do with delegates; it is about party membership. It is therefore shameful for those dancing on a dead rat to cry for help,” he added. He urged national leaders to disregard claims of non-attendance.

He reiterated that Sokoto representatives were present at the convention. He maintained participation despite internal disagreements.

“I enjoin the PDP leadership and loyalists nationwide to ignore the notion that non-members from Sokoto are here. We are here, fully involved,” he said.

He further reaffirmed commitment to the party’s activities. He pledged continued loyalty to PDP engagements. He said stakeholders from the state remained involved.

“We remain loyal to the PDP and are committed to working for its progress in all future engagements,” he said. The dispute highlights internal divisions within the state chapter.

Rival factions continue to assert legitimacy and representation. The disagreement emerged as the convention proceeded in Abuja.

The conflicting claims reflect broader tensions within party structures. State chapters adopted varying positions on participation. Some factions insisted on engagement with convention activities.

Others maintained reservations over attendance and representation. The Sokoto disagreement remained unresolved during proceedings.
