Katampe power maintenance will result in a temporary electricity outage across parts of Abuja on Saturday after the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) announced a scheduled preventive maintenance exercise at the Katampe 132/33 KiloVolt (kV) Transmission Substation.
The announcement was made by TCN’s General Manager of Public Affairs, Ndidi Mbah, in a statement issued in Abuja. According to the company, the maintenance exercise will take place from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. and is aimed at improving the reliability and efficiency of critical power infrastructure.
TCN said the Katampe power maintenance will allow its maintenance team to carry out preventive servicing on the 100 Megavolt Ampere (MVA) 132/33kV Power Transformer (TR1), including its auxiliaries and associated switchgear at the Katampe Transmission Substation.
As a result of the exercise, the Abuja Electricity Distribution Company (AEDC) will temporarily be unable to receive bulk electricity for distribution to customers in several parts of the Federal Capital Territory. Communities expected to experience power interruption include: Mpape, Maitama, Jahi, Life Camp, Kado Fish Market, Idu-Karmo, surrounding communities
TCN explained that electricity supply is expected to be restored immediately after the maintenance work is completed. The company also apologised to customers who will be affected during the planned outage.
The Katampe power maintenance is part of TCN’s routine asset management programme aimed at improving the performance, reliability and lifespan of transmission equipment. The company noted that preventive maintenance remains necessary to reduce the risk of equipment failure and support more stable electricity transmission across the network.
TCN urged residents and businesses in the affected areas to make adequate arrangements during the scheduled outage, assuring customers that the temporary disruption is necessary to enhance the long-term reliability of electricity supply. The company reiterated that regular maintenance is essential to keep transmission infrastructure operating at optimal levels.
