The German Embassy in Nigeria has warned Nigerians applying for visas against relying on individuals who claim to have special access to the German visa process.
The embassy issued the warning in a recent post on X, urging applicants to verify visa-related information directly with the German mission.
The embassy said Nigerians should be cautious about claims made by so-called German visa agents, particularly individuals who suggest they possess privileged information or influence over visa applications.
“Beware of misinformation. Save yourself the hassle & just ask us directly,” the embassy said.
The mission also invited Nigerians to share claims they had received from visa agents in the comments section of its post.
It said the information would be addressed in subsequent posts to help applicants distinguish between legitimate visa requirements and misinformation.
The German Embassy further made its position on visa agents explicit, stating that it does not work with any visa agents.
“We DO NOT WORK with any ‘Visa Agents’!” the embassy said.
According to the mission, applicants do not need intermediaries to obtain official information about German visa applications.
It explained that information on visa categories, requirements and application procedures is publicly available through the official German Missions in Nigeria channels.
The warning comes amid the widespread use of third parties by Nigerians seeking to travel to Germany for different purposes.
Applicants seeking tourist, student, employment and family reunification visas may sometimes turn to intermediaries for guidance through the application process.
However, the embassy’s clarification means applicants should exercise caution when dealing with anyone claiming to represent the German mission or suggesting that they can influence visa decisions.
The embassy’s warning also highlights the importance of verifying information before paying money or submitting personal documents to third parties.
Nigerians applying for German visas are therefore encouraged to rely on information provided directly by the German Missions in Nigeria.
The embassy maintained that applicants can access official visa information without depending on German visa agents or individuals claiming to have special connections within the German visa system.
