ECOWAS Begins Recruitment for Over 30 Positions in Nigeria, Other Member States

ECOWAS begins recruitment exercise for more than 30 professional and support positions across Nigeria and other member states, the Economic Community of West African States announced on Thursday.

The regional bloc said the 2026 recruitment drive is aimed at strengthening its operational capacity and supporting the implementation of its regional programmes.

According to a notice published on the official ECOWAS website, qualified citizens from member countries, including Nigeria, are eligible to apply for the vacancies, which span administrative, legal, financial, health and technical roles within the organisation’s institutions and agencies.

At least a dozen positions listed will be based at the ECOWAS Commission headquarters in Abuja, Nigeria, reflecting the bloc’s status as host of its principal secretariat.

The recruitment announcement published on the careers portal identified roles such as Office Aide, Programme Assistant, Nurse, Protocol Assistant, Documentation and Archives Assistant, Office Manager (Bilingual Secretary), Junior Accountant (Disbursements), Accountant, Legal Officers, Political Adviser, Head of Division (Library and Documentation) and Head of Hansard as part of the available job opportunities.

In addition to the Nigerian postings, the ECOWAS notice specified several positions outside the country.

Among these are Administrative and Finance Officer roles in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia; Principal Programme Officer (Sports Policy) in Liberia; Principal Programme Officer (Water Supply and Sanitation) in Conakry, Guinea; and other administrative, legal and technical positions in Dakar, Senegal.

The regional organisation said the recruitment exercise aims to “strengthen the implementation of its sectoral programmes across key institutions,” underscoring the need for diverse skill sets to support ECOWAS activities in areas including governance, economic integration, health, infrastructure and administration.

ECOWAS, established in May 1975 as a regional intergovernmental body to promote economic integration and cooperation among West African states, currently has 12 member states with headquarters in Abuja.

The bloc conducts its work in English, French and Portuguese, reflecting regional linguistic diversity.

Prospective applicants are required to submit their applications via the ECOWAS careers portal (www.ecowas.int/careers/
) and meet specified eligibility criteria, which vary by role and may include academic qualifications, professional experience and specific age requirements depending on the category of position sought.

The recruitment drive is one of the bloc’s significant staffing efforts for 2026 and remains open through April 30, 2026, according to official postings.

With multiple roles spanning entry‑level support to specialised professional categories, the exercise presents opportunities for qualified candidates from across the region to engage directly in ECOWAS institutional work.

ECOWAS has emphasised that the recruitment process is free of charge and that candidates should rely solely on official communications from the organisation to avoid scams.

The bloc clarified it does not require any payment for application processing or interviews and urged applicants to guard against unofficial solicitations.
