The All Progressives Congress has won all 13 chairmanship seats contested in the Ebonyi LG polls, alongside all 171 councillorship positions.
The results were announced by the Chairman of the Ebonyi State Independent Electoral Commission, Patrick Enyi, at the commission’s office on Onwe Road, Abakaliki. Among those declared winners was Osborn Umahi, son of Works Minister David Umahi. Umahi emerged chairman-elect of Ohaozara Local Government Area.
Other candidates declared winners include Peace Agwu of Ishielu and Paul Ituma of Ohaukwu. Friday Nwuhuo won Ezza North, while Chinedu Mkpuma emerged victorious in Ezza South.
Chidi Nwode was declared winner in Ikwo, while Timothy Nwachi won Afikpo. Ikechukwu Ogbofia emerged chairman-elect of Onicha. Michael Kalu Anyim won Ivo, while Simeon Onuoha emerged winner in Edda. Helen Aduga won Izzi, while Chidiebere Alo emerged chairman-elect of Abakaliki.
Chibueze Odigwe was declared winner of Ebonyi Local Government Area. The EBSIEC chairman described the Ebonyi LG polls as peaceful, free and fair. He noted that other political parties also participated in the election. Enyi commended voters for exercising their constitutional rights and thanked security agencies for supporting the electoral process.
Speaking after his declaration, Osborn Umahi praised EBSIEC for what he described as the transparent and peaceful conduct of the election. He pledged to focus on rural development during his tenure. The chairman-elect also promised to prioritise youth empowerment and agricultural transformation in Ohaozara.
The APC Chairman in Ebonyi State, Stanley Okoro Emegha, described the results as evidence of the party’s dominance in the state. Emegha said the outcome demonstrated what he described as increasing acceptance of the APC among residents.
He expressed confidence that the party would secure another victory in Ebonyi during the 2027 general elections. The results give the APC control of all 13 local government councils and all 171 councillorship positions contested in the state.
