The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority is responsible for traffic control, monitoring and emergency response on major roads and bus stops across the state.
Hit‑and‑run incidents occur when a driver involved in a collision leaves the scene without stopping to assist or give information to authorities, which is prohibited under Nigerian traffic laws.
LASTMA said the victim was a female pedestrian and a member of the Mountain of Fire and Miracles Ministries (MFM), who was at the NYSC Bus Stop in the Igando area when she was struck by a Mercedes‑Benz C‑300 vehicle.
The agency said its personnel responded promptly to distress alerts and cordoned off the scene to prevent secondary collisions.
According to LASTMA, the driver fled the scene immediately after the collision, leaving the victim fatally injured.
The vehicle was later removed from the carriageway by LASTMA operatives in coordination with officers of the Nigeria Police Force, Igando Division, the agency said.
Police have launched an investigation to identify and apprehend the driver responsible for the collision.
LASTMA General Manager Olajide Bakare‑Oki extended condolences to the victim’s family and the MFM Church community and reiterated the authority’s commitment to traffic discipline and pedestrian safety.
The fatal incident highlights enforcement challenges associated with hit‑and‑run collisions in Lagos, where pedestrian safety and motorist compliance with traffic regulations remain key concerns.
LASTMA’s response and the ongoing police investigation may influence efforts to improve road safety measures and enforcement against motorists who flee collision scenes.
