Former Kano State Governor, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, has explained his decision to partner former Anambra State Governor, Peter Obi, ahead of the 2027 presidential election. Kwankwaso said the Obi-Kwankwaso ticket was born out of a desire to provide Nigerians with competent, courageous and accountable leadership at a time when the country faces serious economic and security challenges.
In a message marking the commencement of the 2027 presidential campaign, the former governor said Nigerians were confronting rising living costs, unemployment, insecurity and inadequate investment in key sectors. He said millions of young Nigerians were struggling to secure meaningful employment, while businesses were battling high operating costs and an increasingly uncertain economic environment.
According to Kwankwaso, insecurity remains another major concern, with terrorism, banditry and kidnapping continuing to threaten communities and livelihoods. He said farmers needed security to return to their farms, while children deserved to attend schools without fear.
“Our farmers need security to return to their farms, our children need safe schools, and every Nigerian deserves to live without fear,” he said.
Kwankwaso, however, maintained that Nigeria possessed the human and material resources needed to overcome its challenges. He said the country required leadership driven by “competence, courage and commitment” and capable of putting national interests ahead of personal considerations.
Explaining his alliance with Obi, Kwankwaso said the partnership was not motivated by regional, religious or personal interests.
“This is why I have chosen to work with His Excellency, Peter Obi, on the Obi-Kwankwaso ticket. “Our partnership is not about region, religion or personal ambition. It is about Nigeria,” he said.
Kwankwaso said both politicians shared a vision of a country where government would genuinely serve citizens, hard work would be rewarded and young Nigerians could build successful futures at home. He also said every Nigerian should have a fair opportunity to prosper regardless of background.
The former Kano governor called on young people, women, workers, farmers, entrepreneurs and professionals to participate in the political movement. He urged Nigerians to move beyond divisive politics and concentrate on issues that directly affect their lives.
Kwankwaso also encouraged voters to demand accountability, competence and measurable results from those seeking public office. According to him, the 2027 election provides Nigerians with an opportunity to determine a different political direction for the country.
Kwankwaso appealed to Nigerians to support the Obi-Kwankwaso ticket and candidates of the National Democratic Congress (NDC). He also urged supporters to conduct their campaigns peacefully and responsibly, stressing the importance of protecting the national interest.
“The 2027 election presents Nigerians with an opportunity to choose a new direction,” he said.
“Let us campaign peacefully, responsibly and with the national interest at heart. Together, we can build a stronger nation and Nigeria will be OK.”
