President Bola Tinubu has congratulated Team Nigeria Commonwealth Games athletes for their impressive performance at the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, Scotland, describing their achievements as a reflection of the resilience, discipline and determination that define the Nigerian spirit.
In a statement issued by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, the President praised the contingent for representing Nigeria with honour and bringing pride to the nation on the international stage.
Team Nigeria concluded the competition with an impressive haul of 24 medals, comprising 10 gold, seven silver and seven bronze medals, a feat Tinubu described as evidence of the athletes’ hard work, dedication and perseverance. According to the President, the success recorded at the Games demonstrates the rewards of commitment and serves as motivation for aspiring athletes across the country.
He noted that beyond the medals, the experience gained by members of Team Nigeria Commonwealth Games would strengthen their preparations for future international competitions while inspiring more young Nigerians to pursue excellence through sports.
President Tinubu also commended the Nigeria Olympic Committee (NOC) and the National Sports Commission (NSC) for their continued efforts in supporting athletes and advancing sports development in the country. He encouraged the athletes to remain focused and continue striving for greater accomplishments on the global stage.
“Whether on the podium or through courageous performances in the competition, every member of Team Nigeria has represented our nation with honour, dignity, and pride,” the President said.
Tinubu further expressed appreciation to everyone who contributed to Nigeria’s participation, including athletes, coaches, technical officials, medical personnel and sports administrators, acknowledging their commitment and sacrifices throughout the competition.
Reaffirming his administration’s commitment to the sector, the President pledged continued investment in sports development through improved sporting institutions, better training facilities and expanded opportunities for Nigerian athletes to compete and succeed at continental and global competitions.
He said the government remains committed to creating an environment that enables talented Nigerians to realise their full potential and sustain the country’s growing success in international sports.
