Speaker of the House of Representatives, Tajudeen Abbas, has welcomed the Shettima renomination as the All Progressives Congress (APC) vice-presidential candidate for the 2027 general election, describing the decision as recognition of Vice President Kashim Shettima’s loyalty, competence and commitment to national service.
In a statement issued on Saturday by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Musa Krishi, Abbas also commended President Bola Tinubu for retaining Shettima as his running mate, saying the decision demonstrated confidence in the Vice President’s leadership and contributions to the administration. According to the Speaker, Shettima has remained a dependable deputy and trusted partner since the Tinubu administration assumed office in May 2023.
“I join the leaders and countless members of our esteemed party, the APC, in congratulating Vice President Senator Kashim Shettima, GCON, on his renomination as the vice-presidential candidate alongside President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR,” Abbas said.
He added that Shettima’s loyalty and commitment have helped the administration remain focused on improving the lives of Nigerians.
Abbas said President Tinubu’s decision reflected sound political judgment and strong confidence in his deputy. According to him, the Shettima renomination has further strengthened the APC’s prospects ahead of the 2027 presidential election.
“With this decision, President Tinubu exemplifies extraordinary leadership and astute political judgment. The President’s confidence and belief in Shettima continue to stand firm,” he stated. The Speaker expressed optimism that the ruling party would perform strongly in the next general election.
“I make bold to say that this decision has further strengthened our party’s chances in the 2027 election. Without sounding conceited, APC will easily cruise to victory come January,” he added.
Abbas urged APC leaders and members across the country to intensify grassroots mobilisation ahead of the 2027 polls. He said expanding the party’s support base at the community level would be crucial to consolidating its electoral strength nationwide.
The Speaker’s remarks followed the APC’s formal confirmation of Kashim Shettima as President Tinubu’s running mate for the 2027 presidential election.
On Friday, the party’s National Working Committee received the presidential and vice-presidential nomination forms of President Bola Tinubu and Vice President Kashim Shettima from the President’s Special Adviser on Political Matters, Ibrahim Masari, ahead of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) deadline for the submission of candidates.
