ADC slashes nomination fees, releases revised 2026 primaries timetable

A revised ADC primaries timetable has been unveiled alongside reduced nomination fees, marking a key adjustment in the African Democratic Congress’ preparations for its 2026 internal elections. The party announced updated dates for nomination, screening, appeals, and primaries across elective positions. The adjustments were presented as part of efforts to strengthen internal democracy and improve participation ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The ADC primaries timetable is central to the party’s roadmap for selecting candidates ahead of national elections. Political parties in Nigeria are currently intensifying preparations for internal primaries as election cycles approach.

The African Democratic Congress has positioned its internal process around transparency and structured participation. The party has also introduced financial adjustments aimed at expanding accessibility for aspirants. Recent political activity shows increasing competition among parties to attract credible candidates. Internal party reforms have become a key focus across Nigeria’s opposition space.

According to the revised ADC primaries timetable, the sale of nomination forms will run from May 6 to May 13, 2026. Screening of aspirants is scheduled for May 14, while results will be released on May 17. Appeals will hold between May 18 and May 19. The final list of cleared aspirants is expected on May 20, 2026.

Primary elections will begin on May 21 for State Assembly, House of Representatives, and Senate seats. Governorship primaries follow on May 22, while the presidential primary is scheduled for May 23 or May 25 depending on schedule adjustments.

The process will conclude with a National Executive Committee meeting and a Special National Convention for ratification of candidates. The party also revised nomination fees, reducing costs across elective positions. The presidential form remains in the high-value category, while other positions also saw adjusted pricing.

Concessions were retained for youth, women, and persons with disabilities. Youth aspirants receive a 50 percent discount, while women and persons with disabilities receive 25 percent. Party officials said the adjustments followed consultations with stakeholders and aspirants nationwide.

The ADC primaries timetable signals intensified preparation within Nigeria’s opposition parties ahead of 2027. Reduced fees may encourage wider participation among younger political aspirants. For political stakeholders, the revised structure improves predictability in candidate selection. It also reflects growing pressure for internal party reforms across the political system.

For aspirants, the updated schedule demands faster mobilisation and compliance with strict deadlines. Delays or non-compliance could affect eligibility in the primaries. For the broader political environment, the changes highlight increasing competitiveness among parties seeking credible candidates.
