The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has announced a planned power outage in parts of Sokoto Town on Saturday, January 17, 2026. The outage will run from 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. to allow for annual preventive maintenance on a key transformer at the Sokoto Transmission Substation, the company said in a statement.
TCN said the maintenance work involves servicing the 30/40MVA power transformer at the substation, a routine activity meant to sustain reliable electricity transmission.
During the maintenance period, the Kaduna Electricity Distribution Company will be unable to receive bulk electricity from the affected transformer for onward distribution in parts of the state.
Areas Expected to Be Affected
The company listed several locations where electricity supply may be disrupted. These include:
Sama Road
Abuja Road
Gagi Area
Minanata Area
Old Airport
Army Barracks
Residents in these areas have been advised to plan for possible power interruptions during the maintenance window.
TCN said the exercise is part of its ongoing efforts to maintain and optimise infrastructure that supports transmission of bulk electricity across the national grid. Scheduled maintenance is intended to reduce the risk of unplanned outages caused by equipment failure.
The notice aims to give customers and businesses ample time to prepare for the temporary interruption in supply and to make necessary arrangements to minimise inconvenience during the maintenance period.
