The Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lieutenant‑General Waidi Shaibu, has pledged the continuous professional deployment of Nigerian Army troops and resources to Plateau State as part of ongoing efforts to address insecurity and protect lives and property.
He made the assurance on Tuesday during a courtesy visit to Plateau State Governor Caleb Mutfwang in Jos.
According to a statement by the Nigerian Army spokesperson, Colonel Appolonia Anele, the visit formed part of the COAS’s operational and familiarisation tour of Army formations in the state.
Shaibu reaffirmed the Army’s commitment to restoring lasting peace and security in Plateau and other parts of the country.
“The Nigerian Army will continue to deploy its personnel and resources professionally to mitigate security threats and ensure the protection of lives and property,” the COAS said, adding that “with all hands on deck, lasting peace on the Plateau is achievable.”
Shaibu commended the Plateau State Government for its consistent support to the Nigerian Army, describing the state as a strategic partner and the home of the Armoured Corps.
He acknowledged that security challenges in the state were complex but emphasised that sustained collaboration, intelligence sharing and joint efforts among stakeholders would yield positive results.
In his response, Governor Mutfwang congratulated Lt‑Gen. Shaibu on his appointment as the 25th Chief of Army Staff and wished him a successful tenure.
The governor praised the sacrifices, professionalism and gallantry of Nigerian Army personnel, noting that despite multiple deployments nationwide, troops had continued to perform their duties effectively.
Mutfwang specifically commended troops operating under Operation Enduring Peace for their proactive role in ensuring peaceful Christmas and New Year celebrations in Plateau State.
He reaffirmed the state government’s commitment to supporting both kinetic and non‑kinetic operations and called for sustained collaboration to address residual security challenges in some parts of the state.
During the visit, the COAS also paid homage to Gbong Gwom Jos, His Majesty Da Jacob Gyang Buba, assuring the traditional ruler of the Army’s resolve to fully restore peace across Plateau.
The Gbong Gwom Jos expressed appreciation for the visit and pledged continued support for community engagement and youth sensitisation to consolidate the peace achieved so far.
Plateau State has experienced recurring security challenges in recent years, prompting sustained military operations and deployments aimed at stabilising affected communities.
The Nigerian Army has maintained a robust presence through various operations working alongside other security agencies and local stakeholders.
Shaibu’s assurance of continued troop deployment reflects the Army’s broader strategy of proactive engagement and cooperation with state authorities and traditional institutions to build on gains already recorded and to advance peace and stability in Plateau and surrounding regions.
