Anthony Joshua Discharged from Lagos Hospital After Fatal Road Crash

Lagos, Nigeria: British-Nigerian boxer Anthony Joshua has been discharged from a Lagos hospital following a road crash on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway that resulted in two fatalities.

The accident occurred on December 29, involving Joshua’s vehicle and another car carrying two occupants. Emergency services confirmed that both occupants of the other vehicle were pronounced dead at the scene. Joshua was immediately transported to a hospital for medical attention. Authorities stated that he sustained minor injuries and has now been released.

The Lagos State Police Command provided details of the incident, indicating that preliminary investigations suggest the collision was accidental. Police officers are examining eyewitness accounts, traffic surveillance footage, and vehicle positions to determine the sequence of events. No arrests have been made in connection with the crash.

Officials from the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) reported that the crash occurred near the toll gate and highlighted that this section of the expressway experiences high traffic volumes, particularly during the holiday season. First responders reached the scene promptly, providing immediate aid before Joshua was transported to the hospital.

Representatives of Anthony Joshua issued a statement expressing gratitude to the hospital staff for their care. They confirmed that Joshua would continue his recovery at a private location. The statement also conveyed condolences to the families of the two victims who lost their lives in the crash.

Authorities have urged motorists to exercise caution on major highways, noting that accident rates increase during peak travel periods. Traffic officials reiterated the importance of adherence to speed limits, road signage, and safety regulations to prevent further fatalities.

The Lagos-Ibadan Expressway has previously been a site of traffic incidents, prompting calls from road safety agencies for increased monitoring and public awareness campaigns. Police investigations into the crash remain ongoing, and updates will be provided as more information becomes available.
