PDP Installs Caretaker Committees in Five Strategic States

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has approved the appointment of caretaker committees to manage its affairs in Delta, Enugu, Imo, Rivers and Osun states, the party said in a public notice on Thursday in Abuja.

The move is aimed at ensuring continuity and effective administration of party structures ahead of fresh elections in those states.

The appointments were made by the PDP National Working Committee (NWC) on behalf of the National Executive Committee (NEC), under Section 29(2)(b) of the PDP Constitution (2025 as amended), according to the notice signed by the party’s National Organising Secretary, Theophilus Dakas Shan.

State Committees and Leadership

  • Delta State: Prof. Sylvester Monye as chairman and Dr. Michael Tidi as secretary.
  • Enugu State: Steve Oruruo as chairman and Martin Ugwuamadieze as secretary.
  • Imo State: Chief John Jude Okere as chairman and Magnus Amadi as secretary.
  • Rivers State: Ogbam Ojimah as chairman and Dr. Field Baribeful Nkor as secretary.
  • Osun State: Tunde Tijani as chairman and Bamidele Seyi-Abiola as secretary.

Shan said the caretaker committees are empowered to oversee day-to-day party activities in their respective states. He said members must carry out their duties in line with the PDP Constitution (2025 as amended), the Electoral Act 2022 and the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, 1999 (as amended).

The PDP stated that the tenure of each caretaker committee will not exceed 90 days or until a new Executive Committee is elected in the respective states. The interim committees are expected to prepare the ground for rescheduled party congresses and leadership elections.

The move places key PDP chapters under interim leadership as the party works to reconstitute its elected structures. Party officials said the action reflects the need to strengthen organisational cohesion and ensure readiness ahead of upcoming political contests, including the 2027 general elections.

Political analysts note that caretaker committees can help stabilise party operations in states where internal leadership positions have been vacant or contested, and support efforts to mobilise members and coordinate grassroots activities.
