Africa Magic Opens Submissions for 12th AMVCA

MultiChoice, organisers of the Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards (AMVCA), has officially opened the call for entries for the 12th edition of the continent’s premier film and television awards, inviting filmmakers, producers and content creators across Africa to submit eligible works for consideration. Submissions are open from January 11 to February 15, 2026, according to the organisers’ statement.

The 12th AMVCA celebrates outstanding achievements in African storytelling across film, television and digital content. In the announcement, the organisers said the awards will sustain their focus on “celebrating exceptional African storytelling while showcasing the growth, creativity and global potential of the continent’s entertainment industry.”

A notable feature of this year’s edition is the expansion of the Indigenous Language categories. The awards will introduce Best Indigenous Language – North Africa and Best Indigenous Language – Central Africa, reflecting the AMVCA’s commitment to pan-African representation, cultural preservation and inclusion of diverse linguistic communities.

The 2026 AMVCA edition will comprise 32 award categories, including 18 jury-decided categories, 11 audience-voted categories, two Lifetime Achievement recognitions and one Trailblazer Award, organisers said.

Eligible entries must have been broadcast or publicly screened between January 1 and December 31, 2025, with feature-length films qualifying through cinema screenings, linear television or streaming platforms.

All entries must be submitted online via the official AMVCA portal, with full preview copies uploaded in the format in which they were screened or broadcast, the organisers stated. Detailed submission requirements and eligibility criteria are available on the official awards website.

The 12th AMVCA is headlined by Don Julio as the lead sponsor, a partnership described by organisers as part of the awards’ evolution into a premium cultural platform celebrating African creativity and craftsmanship.

Launched by MultiChoice in 2013, the AMVCA has grown into one of the most prestigious events recognising excellence in African film and television. Past editions have highlighted works from across the continent and underscored the vibrancy and diversity of African entertainment.

The opening of entries for the 12th AMVCA affirms the continued momentum in Africa’s creative industry, offering a platform for both established and emerging talent to gain continental recognition for their creative contributions.
