The Federal Government has paid the naira equivalent of $100,000 to each player of Nigeria’s senior women’s basketball team, D’Tigress, completing the cash component of President Bola Tinubu’s reward for their historic 2025 FIBA Women’s AfroBasket victory.
The National Sports Commission, NSC, confirmed that the accounts of the players and officials were credited on September 9, 2026.
Each team official received the naira equivalent of $50,000, with the commission stating that all beneficiaries had confirmed receipt of the payments.
The disbursement marks the completion of the presidential reward promised to D’Tigress after they secured a record fifth consecutive continental title and seventh overall at the 2025 FIBA Women’s AfroBasket.
The full package included three-bedroom apartments in Abuja, national honours of the Order of the Niger, OON, and cash awards of $100,000 for each player and $50,000 for each official.
According to the NSC, the players and officials had already received their apartment title documents, including Certificates of Occupancy, as well as certificates of national honours in February 2026.
The commission said the documents were duly signed by President Tinubu.
In a statement signed by its Director of Information and Public Relations, Kehinde Ajayi, the NSC said the latest payment meant that every component of the presidential reward had now been redeemed.
D’Tigress also acknowledged the development on Thursday through a post on its official X account, captioned, “Presidential reward acknowledged.”
The NSC said the rewards reflected the Federal Government’s commitment to the welfare of Nigerian athletes and its desire to recognise exceptional performances on the international stage.
The commission also provided an update on the presidential rewards promised to the Super Falcons following their triumph at the 2025 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations.
It said the Falcons had received their apartment title documents and national honours, while the cash component remained outstanding.
The team is expected to receive the naira equivalent of $100,000 for each player and $50,000 for each official before their next official engagements.
D’Tigress’ latest payment brings the government’s reward for the basketball team’s 2025 continental success to full completion, following a campaign that extended Nigeria’s dominance in African women’s basketball.
