The Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), Rivers State chapter, has dismissed reports claiming that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) failed to upload the name of its deputy governorship candidate, Dr Mike Barieenee Nwielaghi.
The party’s media directorate, in a statement issued on Thursday in Port Harcourt, described the report as false and misleading, insisting that Nwielaghi’s details were successfully uploaded through the appropriate electoral process.
According to the directorate, Nwielaghi remains the duly presented and recognised deputy governorship candidate of the NDC in Rivers State.
“We state unequivocally that this narrative is false and misleading. The name of our deputy governorship candidate was successfully uploaded by INEC,” the statement said.
The party urged Nigerians, its supporters and members of the media to verify electoral information from official sources before sharing reports on social media.
It said political discussions should be based on facts rather than speculation or misinformation capable of creating confusion among voters.
The NDC media directorate also reaffirmed its commitment to transparency, due process and issue-based political engagement as the electoral process progresses in the state.
“The facts remain clear. Dr. Mike Nwielaghi is the NDC Deputy Governorship Candidate for Rivers State,” it stated.
The party further assured residents that it would continue providing what it described as accurate information on its participation in the election, while appreciating supporters for their continued confidence and encouragement.
Nwielaghi also confirmed that his name had been uploaded by INEC, expressing confidence in the party’s prospects at the forthcoming poll.
He said the NDC was prepared to take over the reins of government and provide what he described as the kind of democracy Rivers people deserve.
The deputy governorship candidate also praised the party’s governorship candidate, Chief Dumo Lulu Briggs, describing him as a politician loved by the people of Rivers State.
The NDC’s clarification comes amid growing political activity in Rivers State ahead of the election, with parties and candidates increasingly focused on their compliance with the electoral process.
