The Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) has begun accepting applications for its ECOWAS Graduate Programme for 2027, giving qualified young Nigerians and other citizens of member states the opportunity to participate in a fully funded one-year professional placement within the regional organisation.
The programme, officially known as the Young Graduates Immersion Programme, was announced in a notice published on July 31, 2026, with applications remaining open until August 31, 2026.
According to ECOWAS, the initiative is designed to provide young graduates with practical work experience while allowing them to contribute to programmes that promote regional integration and development across West Africa. In its announcement, the regional body encouraged eligible young professionals to seize the opportunity to build their careers while working alongside experienced experts in various sectors.
To qualify for the ECOWAS Graduate Programme, applicants must: be citizens of an ECOWAS member state, including Nigeria, be 32 years old or younger at the time of application, hold a degree in a relevant discipline from a recognised higher institution.
Interested applicants are required to complete their applications through the official ECOWAS Young Graduates Immersion Programme portal.
The application process involves six key steps: create an account on the application portal, complete personal and contact information, provide academic and professional background details, upload all required documents, including a degree certificate, curriculum vitae (CV) and a motivation letter, review and verify the submitted information, submit the completed application before the deadline.
ECOWAS said successful candidates will spend one year working within its institutions and specialised agencies, gaining practical experience while supporting programmes aimed at advancing regional cooperation.
Participants in the ECOWAS Graduate Programme will benefit from: one year of professional work experience in ECOWAS institutions, advanced professional training, personalised mentorship from experienced professionals, leadership development opportunities, access to a network of regional and international experts.
The regional bloc said the initiative is part of its broader commitment to developing the next generation of African professionals while strengthening cooperation and sustainable development across West African countries. Applications for the programme close on August 31, 2026, after which successful candidates will be selected for placement across various ECOWAS institutions and agencies.
