Nigeria’s crude production climbed to an average of 1.56 million barrels per day (bpd) in June 2026, exceeding the country’s production quota set by the Organisation of the Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC) and recording its strongest performance in more than six years. The figures were released by the Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission (NUPRC) in a statement signed by its Head of Media and Corporate Communications, Eniola Akinkuotu.
According to the commission, Nigeria recorded an average daily production of 1,735,398 barrels of crude oil and condensates during the month, extending the country’s production growth to a fourth consecutive month. The total output comprised 1.56 million barrels per day of crude oil and approximately 180,000 barrels per day of condensates.
The commission noted that the June performance meant Nigeria crude production achieved 104 per cent of the country’s 1.5 million barrels per day OPEC quota, reflecting continued improvement in the nation’s upstream oil sector.
“In strict crude oil terms, excluding condensates, the 1.56 million daily average production Nigeria witnessed in June is the highest that Africa’s biggest oil producer has recorded since April 2020, thus representing a 74-month high,” the NUPRC stated.
The commission further disclosed that combined crude oil and condensate production reached a peak of 1.89 million barrels per day during the month, while the lowest daily production recorded stood at 1.57 million barrels per day. According to the regulator, the peak output demonstrates Nigeria’s capacity to achieve its medium-term target of producing two million barrels of oil per day.
NUPRC attributed the sustained improvement to stable operations across key producing assets and the absence of significant pipeline disruptions that previously affected production levels. The commission explained that the improved operating environment enhanced production uptime, increased operational efficiency and facilitated smoother evacuation of crude oil from production facilities.
With Nigeria crude production maintaining an upward trajectory for four consecutive months, industry observers are expected to closely monitor whether the country can sustain the momentum and move closer to its long-term production objectives.
