PFIPC accountability questions have taken centre stage as the Kwankwasiyya Movement called on the Federal Government to provide a comprehensive explanation over the controversy surrounding the alleged Presidential Foreign Intervention Promotion Council (PFIPC), insisting the issue extends beyond the conduct of any single individual.
The position was contained in a statement issued on Saturday and signed by the movement’s spokesperson, Dr. Habibu Sale Mohammed. According to the group, the controversy has become a test of transparency, institutional credibility and public accountability, particularly following conflicting claims about the existence of the council.
The movement noted that while the Presidency has maintained that the PFIPC never existed and has distanced itself from individuals claiming to represent the body, reports that an entity bearing the same or a similar name received a budgetary allocation exceeding ₦1 billion in the 2026 Appropriation Act have raised serious concerns.
The PFIPC accountability questions raised by the group include how an allegedly non-existent council appeared in the national budget, who initiated and approved the allocation, which government offices processed the relevant documentation, whether public funds were released or committed, and how allegedly forged official documents could have remained undetected for an extended period.
“This controversy cannot simply be dismissed as the misconduct of one individual,” the statement said.
“Nigerians are entitled to know: If the council never existed, how did it find its way into the national budget? Who proposed and approved the allocation? Which government offices processed the documentation? Was any public money released or committed? If official documents were allegedly forged, how were they used for such a long period without detection?”
The movement stressed that the issues raised are matters of public interest rather than partisan politics. “These are not partisan questions. They are questions of public accountability,” the statement added.
The group also argued that the Tinubu administration’s response would serve as a measure of its commitment to the institutional reforms, transparency and responsible governance it pledged upon assuming office.
It warned that inconsistent explanations, prolonged silence or attempts to shift responsibility could further weaken public confidence in government institutions. The movement further stated that the controversy could affect Nigeria’s international reputation, noting that foreign investors evaluate not only economic policies but also the credibility and integrity of public institutions.
The PFIPC accountability questions prompted the movement to urge the Presidency to publish a detailed account explaining how the budgetary provision originated, the administrative procedures involved and the safeguards being introduced to prevent a recurrence. It also called on the National Assembly, anti-corruption agencies and other statutory oversight bodies to carry out an independent investigation in accordance with the law.
The Kwankwasiyya Movement maintained that Nigerians deserve a full explanation of the PFIPC controversy without delay, insisting that transparency and accountability remain essential to strengthening public trust and protecting the credibility of government institutions.
