Troops of Operation Fansan Yamma have commenced a major security offensive tagged Operation Clean Sweep III across parts of Katsina State, targeting terrorist camps and criminal hideouts linked to persistent attacks in the region. The operation follows the reported abduction and death of retired Major General Rabe Abubakar and is aimed at restoring security in affected communities.
According to a statement issued by the Media Information Officer of Operation Fansan Yamma, Lieutenant Colonel Aliyu Danja, the military launched the operation in response to growing security concerns in Matazu Local Government Area and surrounding communities. The initiative seeks to identify and apprehend those responsible for recent criminal activities, dismantle terrorist networks and prevent armed groups from operating freely within the area.
Danja disclosed that since Operation Clean Sweep III began on June 14, 2026, troops have conducted a series of coordinated military activities across the Joint Operations Area.
The operations include: Fighting patrols, Intelligence-led raids, Cordon-and-search missions, Clearance operations, Surveillance and tracking exercises. The military said the offensive focuses on identified terrorist enclaves and suspected criminal strongholds across the region.
Military authorities reported significant progress during operations around the Dikkawa Hills axis and neighbouring communities. According to the statement, troops carried out clearance missions in: Adua, Nasarawa, Karaduwa
During the operations, security personnel searched several locations believed to be used by criminal groups.
The military also discovered and destroyed structures allegedly serving as logistics bases and support facilities for terrorist elements. Authorities said the action would disrupt the ability of criminal groups to sustain their operations.
The military noted that the offensive is being conducted in collaboration with other security agencies as well as local stakeholders.
According to the command, the partnership is intended to strengthen intelligence gathering, improve operational effectiveness and enhance security across vulnerable communities. The Theatre Command of Joint Task Force Operation Fansan Yamma reaffirmed its commitment to safeguarding residents and ensuring that criminal groups are denied safe havens within the state.
Security authorities urged residents to continue supporting ongoing operations by providing credible and timely intelligence. The military assured citizens that all information shared with security agencies would be treated confidentially and used to support efforts aimed at restoring peace and stability.
The command further stated that troops would maintain pressure on terrorist and bandit groups until the objectives of Operation Clean Sweep III are fully achieved, adding that updates would be provided as the operation progresses.
