NGO Warns Global Conflict Could Kill 500 Million, Urges Diplomacy

A non-governmental organisation, Foundation for Peace Professionals (PeacePro), has warned that a potential global conflict could result in over 500 million deaths, urging increased diplomatic efforts amid rising tensions in the Middle East.

The warning was contained in a strategic report titled “Global Escalation of Warfare and Projected Human Cost of a Potential World War III,” released by the organisation. The report was made available by its Executive Director, Abdulrazaq Hamzat.

PeacePro referenced historical data from previous global conflicts, noting that World War I caused between 10 million and 20 million deaths, while World War II resulted in an estimated 50 million to 70 million deaths.

The organisation stated that advancements in military technology, especially nuclear weapons, have significantly increased the potential scale of destruction in any future global conflict.

According to the report, modern nuclear warheads are significantly more powerful than those used during World War II and are capable of causing widespread destruction across multiple locations simultaneously.

Hamzat stated, “Humanity has already witnessed the devastation of two world wars. But in the nuclear age, a third global war could become a civilization-level catastrophe.”

The organisation linked its warning to rising geopolitical tensions involving countries such as the United States, Israel, and Iran, noting that ongoing developments in the Middle East could expand beyond the region.

PeacePro called for urgent diplomatic engagement among global powers to reduce tensions and prevent escalation into a broader conflict.

The report highlights concerns among policy and peace organisations about the risks associated with modern warfare and the need for international cooperation to address global security challenges.

It also underscores the role of diplomacy and conflict resolution mechanisms in managing geopolitical tensions and preventing large-scale conflicts.
