Fubara Urges Rivers Voters to Back APC Candidates in Bye‑Elections

Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara has urged eligible voters in Ahoada East and Khana Local Government Areas to support the candidates of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and to participate actively in bye‑elections scheduled for February 21, a statement issued by his office said.

Bye‑elections are to fill vacant seats in the Rivers State House of Assembly for Ahoada East Constituency 2 and Khana Constituency 2.

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has scheduled polls in those constituencies alongside other sub‑national and local elections nationwide on Saturday.

Fubara, in a Friday statement by his Chief Press Secretary, Onwuka Nzeshi, encouraged eligible voters to turn out in large numbers and support APC candidates contesting the two vacant seats.

He described the bye‑elections as a “family affair” and reiterated that voters should remain peaceful and law‑abiding during the exercise.

The governor also appealed for calm among residents, urging them to avoid actions that could disturb public peace on election day.

Fubara’s appeal comes amid heightened public attention to bye‑elections in Rivers State, with authorities and political actors emphasising voter participation and peaceful conduct.

Police in the state have issued movement restrictions in parts of Ahoada East and Khana Local Government Areas to support maintenance of order during the bye‑elections.
